Red Sox Bid Farewell To Pablo Sandoval
After the 2014 season ended in a last place finish, the Red Sox invested $95-million over five years in free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval. Boston also signed free agent slugger Hanley Ramirez to a 4-year/$88-million contract that same off-season.
Today he has been designated for assignment.
Due to issues with his weight, injuries, and poor performance, Sandoval played just 161 games in a Red Sox uniform. He batted .239 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI. He was also a disaster at third base defensively. His weight and physical problems made him one of the worst defensive third basemen in baseball over the last few seasons.
