Bye-Bye Randy

What's done is done. Randy Moss is now a member of the Minnesota Vikings and the Patriots have an additional third round draft pick in April.

I am having flashbacks to the last days of Manny Ramirez' tenure with the Red Sox. For all of the joy that special players like Moss and Ramirez bring to their fans, at some point the organization has to cut ties because their attitude turns from negative to poison.

The rumors of Moss' childish behavior are already flowing out of Foxboro. The gist is that Moss was a terrible teammate and was a disruptive force. It finally got so bad that Bill Belichick refused to take anymore of it and shipped him out before it got any worse.

This trade does not help the Patriots on paper but maybe the bad voodoo that Moss was bringing to the Pats will disappear. Young receivers Brandon Tate, Aaron Hernandez, and Rob Gronkowski won't be learning bad habits and will now have Tom Brady and Wes Welker to learn from. Instead of trying to motivate Moss to give an honest effort each week, Belichick and the other coaches can focus their time on improving a talented but inexperienced defense.

Even the biggest Moss haters in New England will have to cheer for him in his first game with the Vikings because a big night for Randy will probably mean his new team will beat the Jets. After that they can return to hating his very existance, especially when he returns to Foxboro on Halloween.

I am going to miss Brady connecting on the deep ball with Moss but I still trust in Belichick's opinion and I do believe this move will benefit the Patriots in both the short and long term.
