Patriots fans have been coming up with theories as to who Bill Belichick would acquire in the wake of the Randy Moss trade. It looks like a solution could present itself by as early as tomorrow.
At the same time Moss returns to Minnesota, where he played from 1998-2005, rumors are swirling that the Patriots are in discussions with Seattle to acquire Deion Branch. A second round pick of the Patriots in 2002, Branch was Tom Brady's favorite target on the Super Bowl teams of 2003 and 2004.
Branch has fought through knee injuries during his time with Seattle and he is not the player he was when he last played for the Patriots in 2005 but he is a player that Brady and Belichick can trust to give his best effort at all times and catch the ball.
With Moss no longer with the team, the Patriots offense will probably become more reliant on short passes. Branch would be a great complement to Wes Welker and he would help relieve some of the pressure of the increased work load that will fall on the shoulders of young receivers Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Tate, Rob Gronkowski, and Julian Edelman.
A trade for Branch would make sense with the Patriots heading into their bye week. When they return to the field a week from Sunday against Baltimore, Branch would be up to speed and ready to make Brady's life easy once again.
