Red Sox v. Mariners (May 14, 2012)

Boston Red Sox (15-19) v. Seattle Mariners (16-20)

SP - Jon Lester (1-3, 4.29) v. Jason Vargas (4-2, 2.79)

1. Mike Aviles, SS
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
5. Willie Middlebrooks, 3B
6. Cody Ross, RF
7. Daniel Nava, LF
8. Marlon Byrd, CF
9. Kelly Shoppach, C

Three Strikes:

1. Not that the feeble Seattle offense will really prove anything but this two-game series will provide Jon Lester and Josh Beckett an opportunity to make a statement to the Fenway faithful that they are capable of leading the pitching staff and the team out of the A.L. East cellar.

2. Willie Middlebrooks (.310/.356/.714, 4 HR, 13 RBI) is here to stay.

3. The Red Sox ownership has not played the public relations game very well lately but they did make a nice move before Saturday's game against the Indians.

All three owners - John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino - presented former Sox pitcher Derek Lowe with a replacement 2004 World Series ring after Lowe's had been stolen from his home.
