Random Thoughts (December 17, 2011)

Thoughts and prayers go out to Celtics forward Jeff Green, who will miss the 2011-2012 season after it was discovered that Green has an aortic aneurysm and will need surgery.

Green came to Boston in the controversial Kendrick Perkins trade last season and did not play well.  It was hoped he would bounce back this year and help the Celtics contend for the championship but now his focus will be on his health.

This is a big blow to the Celtics who were counting on Green to be an important piece of their bench...

After two periods in Philadelphia the Bruins are putting an absolute beating on the Flyers.  Behind goals from Benoit Pouliot, Daniel Paille, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, and Nathan Horton and 21 saves from Tim Thomas, the B's have built a 5-0 lead.

The B's and Flyers have been mixing it up as well - the Bruins have already logged 48 penalty minutes including fighting majors for Chara, Johnny Boychuk, and Horton.

A win today puts the Bruins into first place in the Eastern Conference...

Nice move by the Patriots to sign linebacker Jerod Mayo to a five-year contract extension.  The Pro Bowler is under the control of the Patriots through 2017...

I like the Red Sox decision to make Daniel Bard a starter in spring training but I'm not so excited about the team's decision to keep their options open in terms of possibly moving him back into the bullpen.

The Red Sox should learn from the Yankees mistakes with Joba Chamberlain.  The Yankees never gave Joba a defined role and he could never get comfortable which has led to him struggling.

Either make Bard a starter or the closer...

Enjoy CP3-to-Blake this winter...
