Dustin Pedroia, Hall of Famer?
Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston.com writes this morning that the Red Sox second baseman is on his way to someday being enshrined in Cooperstown. The comparison came a day after Roberto Alomar became only the 20th second baseman to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
In just a few years, Pedroia has built up quite a resume. He has the 2007 A.L. Rookie of the Year and 2008 A.L. MVP trophies in his possession, has won both a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger (both in 2008), has appeared in three All-Star Games (2008-2010), and has helped lead his team to the 2007 World Series title.
Obviously he has a long way to go to get to the Hall of Fame but the Laser Show is definitely on the right track to one day give a speech in Cooperstown...
It was not the best outing of his 19-year career but with the win yesterday, Tim Wakefield has 199 career victories. He also recorded his 2,000th strikeout as a member of the Red Sox.
Wake will never be inducted into the Hall of Fame but his career numbers (199-175, 22 Saves) are solid and he has been around a lot of winning teams (he went 2-0 in the NLCS for the 1992 Pirates and has pitched in the playoffs in eight different years for the Red Sox) which include World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.
The last great accomplishment that Wakefield is shooting for is the record for career victories for the Red Sox. He currently has 185 wins with Boston and needs just eight more to surpass Cy Young and Roger Clemens.
Not bad for a knuckleball specialist who was released by the Pirates in April of 1995...
Jon Lester's return tonight will be an important addition to the Red Sox rotation. A healthy combination of Josh Beckett and Lester at the top of that rotation will keep Boston in the discussion for World Series favorites...
Enjoy Lester tonight...
