It's early. Really early. But after just four games, it looks like Rajon Rondo is ready to take the title of "Best Point Guard in the NBA" and never give it back.
Rondo is running an offense that features future Hall of Famer's Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Shaquille O'Neal as well as scoring threats like Glen Davis, Nate Robinson, and Jermaine O'Neal so there are plenty of options for him to find an open man.
He has set an NBA record with 67 assists in the first four games and has recorded monster games of 24 against the Knicks and 17 versus both the Heat and Pistons. His ability to push the ball up the floor so quickly allows the offense to find great shots and his court vision makes sure that the open man receives the ball.
When you add in Rondo's defensive abilities, his development as a scorer, and his success in the playoffs there is no doubting his place in the game as one of the - if not the - elite floor generals in the NBA. Looking at the position, the NBA is blessed with young stars like Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Derrick Rose, and Brandon Jennings. Rondo is the peer - if not the superior - of all those players. If he became a more consistent shooter, a skill he has shown significant improvement in this year, there would be no deficient area of his game.
On a team full of Hall of Fame talent with the singular goal of winning an NBA Championship, Rajon Rondo might be the most important player wearing the Celtic uniform this year. He will keep the offense moving and more importantly, breath life into the old legs of Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and the O'Neals.
