Okay Borges, I Gotta Give Credit Where Credit Is Due

As an unabashed fan of Bill Belichick, I have never been a fan of columnist Ron Borges. If you have been reading this space for even just a week, you already knew about my feelings on Borges. However, Borges did hit a homerun with today's piece on the life of former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe. Bledsoe has put his football career in the proper perspective and is thriving in retirement with a successful wine business. Bledsoe was the man for the Patriot teams of my childhood and will always have a place in my memory for leading the team out of the darkness (they were 2-14 the year before he was drafted first overall in 1993) and into the spotlight (an appearance in Super Bowl XXXI) of the NFL. Bledsoe was classy all the way to the end of his time with the Patriots, keeping his feelings private while losing his job to Tom Brady during the 2001 season. I am happy that Drew Bledsoe is living a good life in his retirement and I am thankful that Borges wrote such a great column. It should serve as a blueprint for other NFL players on how to prepare for life after football.
