Random Thoughts (October 4, 2010)
Mike Reiss' note on a possible Ty Law return made me think that not only could he help strengthen the Patriots defense this year but he could also make a positive impact on the careers of young cornerbacks Devin McCourty and Darius Butler.
Come on Bill, you know bringing back Ty Law would make your life a lot easier...
Not that I get an official vote but for what it's worth, here is how I would have filled out my MLB awards ballot:
AL MVP - Josh Hamilton, Rangers
NL MVP - Joey Votto, Reds
AL Cy Young - Felix Hernandez, Mariners
NL Cy Young - Roy Halladay, Phillies
AL Rookie of the Year - Neftali Perez, Rangers
NL Rookie of the Year - Buster Posey, Giants
AL Manager of the Year - Terry Francona, Red Sox
NL Manager of the Year - Dusty Baker, Reds
I know that there is a better chance of Bobby Cox winning the mythical "Husband of the Year" award than there is of Francona winning the Manager of the Year award but with all the injuries he had to deal with, it is amazing he led the Red Sox to 89 wins...
Alabama's 31-6 beat down of Florida was impressive but as college football enters October, I can't help but think that the SEC is the most overrated of the elite footbal conferences.
Other than 'Bama, the rest of the SEC is overhyped and is living off past reputations. Florida, LSU, South Carolina, and Arkansas would be no better than the fourth best team in either the Big Ten or Pac-10. Auburn is probably the only team with a chance of giving the Crimson Tide a run for their money in the conference.
Nick Saban had better hope his team runs the table because I don't think that a one-loss SEC Champion will have a strong enough argument to surpass a one-loss Big Ten or Pac-10 team to gain entrance into the BCS National Championship game...
What if I told you there was no answer for "Why Not Us?"
Yes, the ESPN "30 for 30" special on the 2004 ALCS premieres tomorrow night on ESPN...
Enjoy Brandon Spikes tonight...
