Gloria James on Celtics Bandwagon; Random Thoughts (September 1, 2010)

The news of Delonte West signing with the Boston Celtics today is great for Doc Rivers bench as well as for people who like to make fun of LeBron James. That is because West - a talented guard who started his career in Boston after being a first round pick in 2004 - was rumored to be sexually involved with LeBron's mother Gloria last season while a member of the Cavaliers. Although West has struggled with injuries during his career, the 6-4 veteran is a solid player on both ends of the floor who improves the depth of the Celtics bench behind perimeter starters Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. More importantly, with West's recent legal troubles, Danny Ainge made the wise decision to sign him to a non-guaranteed deal. West was a bright spot when the Celtics were suffering through some of their worst years and the opportunity for him to possibly contribute to a championship team now could make for a nice story... Okay, even I have given up on the Red Sox chances to surpass the Yankees and Rays to make it to the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The injuries that plagued Boston this summer - not to mention the inconsistent pitching from John Lackey and complete waste of a year from Josh Beckett - prevented Terry Francona's team from being able to stay in the race with New York and Tampa Bay... With Leigh Bodden being placed on season-ending injured reserved, the Patriots hopes for success are resting heavily on the shoulders of young cornerbacks Darius Butler (2nd year) and Devin McCourty (rookie). I still retain my blind faith in Bill Belichick's ability to run a defense but with a schedule that pits the Patriots against Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, and Carson Palmer as opposing quarterbacks, I can't quite figure out how they are going to slow down their opponents passing games... Enjoy Jon Lester tonight...
