Celtics Rumors

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Celtics have decided to target free agent Brad Miller of the Chicago Bulls. The 34-year-old Miller is capable of playing both center and power forward and if the C's do sign him, he would be a solid replacement for the soon-to-retire Rasheed Wallace and fill-in for Kendrick Perkins until he comes back from knee surgery. Wojnarowski also writes that the Celtics other priority when free agency begins on Thursday is to re-sign guard Ray Allen. I would be in favor of both moves although I do not want to see Danny Ainge waste the entire mid-level exception on Miller. I would still like to see the Celtics add a veteran small forward and another big man as insurance for Perkins' knee. That veteran small forward could be former Providence College star and one-time Celtic Ryan Gomes. Gomes was traded by Minnesota to Portland on draft day but the Trailblazers are expected to release him prior to Thursday in order to create additional salary cap space. He would be an excellent fit off the bench behind Paul Pierce and could potentially fill the role played by James Posey on the 2008 Celtics. I also expect the team to re-sign Tony Allen. The Celtics have put a lot of time into developing Allen and I would be surprised if they did not keep him unless it was a financial decision. As for that extra veteran big man, I would be in favor of the Celtics acquiring Kurt Thomas. Thomas is on his last legs but playing a reduced role behind Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins, and whatever other big they bring in could maximize his game. So, that brings us to today's projected lineup: 5: Brad Miller, Kendrick Perkins, Kurt Thomas 4: Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis, Luke Harangody 3: Paul Pierce, Ryan Gomes 2: Ray Allen, Tony Allen 1: Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley
