Three Strikes:
1. I caught my first game of 2011 at Fenway yesterday - Marathon Monday is a great game to go to when the weather is nice - and I was a little surprised at the anger in the voices of more than a few fans in the Section 14 area. Yes, Crawford is off to a terrible start but he will come out of this slump and when he does, the Red Sox will be a very tough team to beat. I just don't get the hate this early in the season.
I hope those same fans who were killing him yesterday are wearing his J-Shirt during the parade in October.
2. John Lackey should benefit from facing the A's as he is 17-5 with a 2.90 career ERA against the A's and is 8-4, 2.92 in Oakland. However, the ten days rest could be a problem. Lackey is 11-12, 4.49 in 30 career starts with more than six days of rest.
I think that Terry Francona would take a solid six innings with three runs or less from Lackey tonight to get him going in the right direction.
3. Jed Lowrie has taken ownership of the shortstop position and the leadoff spot in the lineup but I hope that Francona can find a place for Marco Scutaro in a super-utility role because he can help this team win games.
