Anthony Davis To Boston?

Adrian Wojnarowski, the leading NBA news breaker, wrote yesterday that the Celtics are still pressuring the Pelicans to trade them Anthony Davis.

Boston is already a fringe title contender, even with prized free agent signing Gordon Hayward still recovering from a gruesome ankle injury suffered on opening night, but adding Davis would make them the favorite to not only dethrone the Cavaliers in the East but compete with the Warriors for the Larry O'Brien trophy in June.

The Celtics are still flush with draft pick assets and enough cheap young players to make the deal work.

For example, Danny Ainge could put together the following player package while sweetening the deal by also sending the Pelicans the rights to the Lakers (or Kings) pick the Celtics acquired from Philadelphia when Ainge traded them the first pick in the 2017 Draft as well as the 2019 Clippers and Grizzlies first round picks.  All of those picks are broken down by Real GM.

New Orleans is stating that they do not want to deal Davis but how long until he demands a deal that puts the Pelicans in a bad position leverage wise?

Moving him to Boston could land them multiple first round picks as well as rising young stars Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart.  It's not ideal to give up the best player in any trade but the Pelicans would not be getting completely robbed in this proposed deal either.

The Celtics would then have a starting rotation of Davis, Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, Terry Rozier, and Kyrie Irving.  Their bench would be considerably thinner, especially if Hayward does not return in 2018, but they would be set up to be a dominant team with the opportunity to win several titles over the next decade by adding Davis to their roster.
