Note:
My thoughts on this disappointing Red Sox season will come in due time. Before writing that, I'd like to watch an entire Patriots game (hopefully tomorrow night's game) and would also like to enjoy the MLB playoffs with teams like Kansas City and Pittsburgh crashing a party many thought was permanently reserved for big market teams like the Red Sox and Yankees.
Today also marks the final game of Derek Jeter's Hall of Fame career. Jeter was always on the wrong side of the battle from my perspective but like a great general who earns the respect of the opponent in battle, #2 will always have the admiration of Red Sox Nation.
Jeter was a fantastic player with a sense for succeeding in the clutch moments that his Yankee teams always seemed to be in the middle of once the calendar turned to October. While his contemporaries Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra had higher peak years, the beauty of Jeter's career is his longevity and ability to perform at a consistently high level.
The game will miss him. His retirement is truly the end of a great era in Yankee and baseball history.
