Red Sox Land Castillo

At a time when the Red Sox seem to be walking in circles as they try to find their future, the team made a promising move today in signing free agent Rusney Castillo from Cuba.

The 27-year-old Castillo landed a 7-year/$72.5-million contract from the Red Sox as the team looks to rebuild quickly from a disappointing 2014 season that came on the heels of winning the 2013 World Series.  He is expected to join the Red Sox this season.

Castillo is expected to play in the outfield, with center field the likely spot for the 5-9 205-pound masher.

This signing is also a precursor to what will certainly be an exciting offseason.  The Red Sox now have a plethora of outfielders and a shortage of pitching so expect general manager Ben Cherington to be very active this winter in putting together a 2015 team that will hopefully be closer to a title than last place.
