A.J. Pierzynski Likely To Be Released By Red Sox

In a move that will not come as much of a surprise, TheBostonInsider has learned from Yahoo! Sports Radio that the Red Sox are expected to release veteran catcher A.J. Pierzynski today.

Pierzynski was brought in by the Red Sox as a short term replacement for Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who left as a free agent for the Marlins this winter, until top prospects Christian Vazquez and Blake Swihart were ready to take over behind the plate in Boston.

With the Red Sox sinking to the bottom of the standings in the A.L. East before the All-Star break, there was no need to keep Pierzynski who is only signed for 2014.

Expect more moves of Red Sox veterans in the coming days.
