The start of the first round of the NFL Draft is on Thursday and it can't come soon enough for TheBostonInsider. Here is my second attempt to predict the unpredictable. If you want to glance at my first attempt for comparison, here you go.
1. Atlanta Falcons (trade with Houston Texans) - Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
I think the Falcons will pull the trigger and move up to tab Clowney, who has the "once-in-a-generation" type of player vibe.
2. St. Louis Rams (from Washington Redskins) - Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
Originally I had Sammy Watkins here but it doesn't matter how many skill players the Rams put around Sam Bradford, if he's not standing he won't be able to complete any passes so offensive line it is with the second pick.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
The news that Justin Blackmon is unlikely to play in 2014 gives the Jaguars the need to draft a number one receiver.
4. Cleveland Browns - Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
No Johnny Football in Cleveland? Not at number four. His college teammate should make a nice 1-2 combination at receiver with Josh Gordon for whoever they draft later at quarterback.
5. Oakland Raiders - Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo
The Raiders have holes everywhere but drafting Mack should solve some of their problem at pass rusher.
6. Houston Texans (trade with Atlanta Falcons) - Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
Johnny Football in the Lone Star State with a solid team around him should make for an interesting rookie season.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
Matthews should give Tampa a starting tackle for the next decade.
8. Minnesota Vikings - C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama
I'm sticking with defense for the Vikings but moving Mosley into this slot in place of Anthony Barr.
9. Buffalo Bills - Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
I still believe the Bills will be looking for offensive line but with Matthews moving up in my mock draft, Buffalo lands Lewan as their left tackle of the future.
10. Detroit Lions - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama
No change from my first mock draft.
11. Tennessee Titans - Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
No change from my first mock draft.
12. New York Giants - Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina
Eli Manning will like to see his team add a big pass catching tight end with the potential of Ebron.
13. St. Louis Rams - Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State
The Rams got their offensive tackle at the second pick and now can draft Benjamin to be Bradford's big (he's 6-5, 240) target on the outside.
14. Chicago Bears - Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh
No change from my first mock draft.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers - Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA
The Steelers veteran linebacking corps from wins in Super Bowls XL and XLIII are leaving or retiring so they take Barr in my mock to prepare for the future.
16. Dallas Cowboys - Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
Tony Romo is getting older, he has a bad back, and he's never won a playoff game. Finding his replacement is the right move for Dallas.
17. Baltimore Ravens - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville
Adding another safety next to Matt Elam helps the Ravens defense continue its transition from the Ray Lewis-Ed Reed era.
18. New York Jets - Marqise Lee, WR, Southern California
Another offensive upgrade for the Jets, who could be a sleeper team in 2014.
19. Miami Dolphins - Zach Martin, OT, Notre Dame
Protection for Ryan Tannehill should be top priority for the Dolphins.
20. Arizona Cardinals - Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida
No change from my first mock draft.
21. Green Bay Packers - Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State
Adding a physical cover cornerback is a nice addition for the Packers at this point of the first round.
22. Philadelphia Eagles - Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt
No change from my first mock draft.
23. Kansas City Chiefs - Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Louisiana State
I still have the Chiefs going with a receiver but it's LSU's Beckham instead of USC's Lee in this mock.
24. Cincinnati Bengals - Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State
No change from my first mock draft.
25. San Diego Chargers - Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech
The Chargers could be a trade partner for a team looking to jump in front of the Browns looking for a quarterback but if they stay put, beefing up the secondary in preparation for two games with Peyton Manning in 2014 is a good idea.
26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis Colts) - Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State
The Browns could wait for the second round on quarterback but it might be risky to pass on Carr at this point with other quarterback needy teams still lurking.
27. New Orleans Saints - Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State
Adding an interior pass rusher at this point is a bonus for the Saints.
28. Carolina Panthers - Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State
The losses of Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell make drafting a receiver a need in Carolina.
29. New England Patriots - Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri
The Patriots need a pass rusher to complement Chandler Jones and make Rob Ninkovich into more of a situational player.
30. San Francisco 49ers - Dee Ford, DE, Auburn
No change from my first mock draft.
31. Denver Broncos - Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State
The Broncos have a big hole at middle linebacker and while Shazier is not a run stuffer, he's athletic and covers a lot of ground which makes him a "21st Century" middle linebacker.
32. Seattle Seahawks - Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia
The Super Bowl champs do have a hole at right tackle following Breno Giacomini's defection to the Jets.
