Wilfork Will Be A Patriot In 2014

A few weeks ago it looked like Vince Wilfork's career with the Patriots was about to end as abruptly as an opponent's rushing attempt at the heart of the defense Wilfork has anchored since 2004 but yesterday it was announced that his contract has been restructured and he will remain a Patriot.

Wilfork will be an important piece of a defense that, at least on paper, should be considered one of the elite units in football heading into the 2014 season.

Wilfork will continue the anchor the interior of the defensive line.  Chandler Jones emerged as a top pass rusher in his second season.  Jerod Mayo leads a group of linebackers that includes promising young standouts Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins.  The secondary has been improved by the additions of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.

Keeping Wilfork makes the Patriots a better team and it should also have a positive impact on the locker room.  With many new faces populating the Patriots roster, having a veteran leader like Wilfork in the fold should help just as much off the field as he will on the field.
