Talib Re-Signs With Patriots

Multiple reports have come out in the last hour that the Patriots have re-signed cornerback Aqib Talib.

The deal, reportedly worth $5-million for one season, is a bargain for the Patriots.

Talib and his agents obviously surveyed the market for cornerbacks and realized they weren't going to get their asking price so they went for a one-year deal in hopes of getting more cash after 2013.

After acquiring him in a trade midway through the 2012 season from Tampa Bay, the Patriots saw their pass defense immediately improve. If it weren't for a leg injury suffered early in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens, Talib might have given the Patriots enough pass defense to make it to the Super Bowl.

The savings on this deal - other cornerbacks of Talib's caliber have been getting around $6-million a year - should allow the team to continue to add pieces on both sides of the ball. Adding a pass rusher, another cornerback, and depth on the offensive line would make this a successful free agency period for the team.
