A.L. East Standings (May 1, 2012)

Here is how baseball's toughest division looks after a month of play.

1. Tampa Bay Rays      (15-8)
2. Baltimore Orioles     (14-9) 1 GB
3. New York Yankees (13-9) 1.5 GB
4. Toronto Blue Jays    (12-11) 3 GB
5. Boston Red Sox      (11-11) 3.5 GB

Glass Half Empty: The pitching is still inconsistent, highlighted by the struggles of Clay Buchholz and most of the bullpen.  Until the pitching becomes better, the Red Sox will stay in the division's cellar.

Glass Half Full: The offense is pounding out runs, all the starters not named Clay Buchholz have pitched well lately, and Alfredo Aceves has taken to the closer's job.  The team should be near, if not at, the top by Memorial Day.
