Red Sox v. Twins (April 24, 2012)

Boston Red Sox (5-10) at Minnesota Twins (5-12)

SP - Josh Beckett (1-2, 5.03) v. Nick Blackburn (0-1, 5.56)

Lineups not posted as of 2:30pm

Three Strikes:

1. Kelly Shoppach gets the start tonight behind the plate for the Red Sox and if he can't contribute offensively tonight then it might be time to cut ties with the veteran catcher and call up Ryan Lavarnway.

For his career, Shoppach is 8-for-16 with 3 home runs off of Blackburn.

2. Ryan Sweeney (.418 average so far) has been a pleasant surprise in April.

3. Willie Middlebrooks, the Red Sox third baseman in waiting, is killing it at Triple-A.  The 23-year-old is hitting .371 with an OPS of 1.170 and has 8 home runs and 25 RBI's so far on the season.

If Kevin Youkilis continues to struggle at the plate, Middlebrooks could be promoted sooner rather than later.

(Note: I'm not sure why this did not publish at 2:30pm yesterday, sorry.)
