Red Sox v. Blue Jays (April 11, 2012)

Boston Red Sox (1-4) at Toronto Blue Jays (3-2)

SP - Jon Lester (0-0, 1.29) v. Ricky Romero (0-0, 7.20)

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
5. David Ortiz, DH
6. Darnell McDonald, RF
7. Cody Ross, LF
8. Mike Aviles, SS
9. Kelly Shoppach, C

Three Strikes:

1. I'm not surprised that Darnell McDonald is getting the start today because the Red Sox are facing lefty Ricky Romero but I am surprised that he's filling in for Ryan Sweeney (8-for-18, .500 OBP) and that Jacoby Ellsbury (2-for-20, .217 OBP) isn't getting the day off.

2. Daniel Bard was not terrible last night in his first MLB start (5+ IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) and he probably has an excellent future as a starter considering his stuff is very good.  I just want the Red Sox to admit that keeping him as a starter instead of making him the closer is a move toward the future and that 2012 is not going to be a playoff season in Boston.

3. When will Ryan Lavarnway finally get called up?
