Patriots Trade for Albert Haynesworth
There are plenty of reasons why the Patriots should have passed on trading for defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. His reputation is known all over the NFL and truth be told, it's not one worth bragging about.
If you watch the video at the top of this post, you will see the one reason why Haynesworth is on his way to New England in exchange for a 2013 5th round draft pick. The Patriots needed a major upgrade for their pass rush and Haynesworth, when motivated, is one of the premiere interior sack masters in the NFL.
Haynesworth has an opportunity with the Patriots to rehab his image while making contributions to a team with realistic Super Bowl hopes.
If the Patriots get the Haynesworth from 2008, when he was a Tennessee Titan, they will have made a tremendous upgrade on their defensive line. Opposing coaches will be getting very little sleep trying to find a way to block a line that also includes Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren. That combination would force opposing quarterbacks to rush themselves in the pocket to avoid the pressure which will make life easier on the secondary.
Now, if the Patriots get the Haynesworth that played poorly in Washington for two years than they will be able to cut him and only have lost the 5th round pick. This is a classic low risk/high reward kind of move.
Please ignore my usual Patriots bias and trust me when I say that Haynesworth will make a positive impact this season and help get the team back into the Super Bowl.
