I have never pretended to be a fan of the University of Notre Dame and their football team but after attending their game with Michigan on Saturday that was played at historic Notre Dame Stadium I have to admit that the Irish know how to host a football game.
Regardless of their loss to the Wolverines, the experience of Fighting Irish football was one I will not soon forget. From the pregame tailgate to the enterance of the team from the tunnel to the band cranking the fight song at halftime, the atmosphere was electric. Sure, there was some moaning about the play calling of head coach Brian Kelly but for the most part the fans were positive and upbeat. Even at the conclusion of the exciting game when Michigan scored with under a minute to take a 28-24 lead, the majority of people expected Irish luck to deliver the W for the hometown team but a last ditch attempt fell short.
This was my first trip to a major college football game (sorry BC, your games don't count) and when I eventually have children of my own, they will have no choice but to attend a traditional college football powerhouse. I could make a habit out of watching games like Notre Dame-Michigan every weekend.
As for the rest of the trip, Chicago lived up to my expectations again and my liver is looking to take a vacation of its own after I drained countless Old Style pounder cans. I can't wait to get back out there again, hopefully sooner than later.
