I know this is just a commercial meant to make fans remember the original version that put Michael Jordan and Larry Bird in a shooting contest to see who would get the Big Mac.
My problem with the updated version is that LeBron and Dwight allowed themselves to say that they didn't know who Bird was at the end of their dunk contest.
As the stars of the current generation of NBA players, both players should have insisted that the lines that made them seem ignorant to one of the greatest players in basketball history be removed. They could have made a joke about Bird's lack of dunking skills or his age but they should never have acted like they did not recognize Bird.
This is why LeBron's season is over and why Dwight's will end tonight. They have spat in the face of a basketball legend and they should have known better to tempt the Basketball Gods, especially because of Bird's ties to the Celtics and their long history of using fate and luck to help will themselves to victory.
