Random Thoughts (March 26, 2010)

A few late-night thoughts while watching Kyle Singler audition for a role in Shutter Island...
If Kentucky is going to make it to the Final Four, they are going to have to play a complete game to defeat West Virginia.
Bob Huggins' Mountaineers are a gifted team that plays their asses off for the entire 40 minutes. They grind out opponents and attack when they see the first sign of weakness.
The Wildcats have the most talent in the country but their three freshman stars - John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Eric Bledsoe - are as good as they come but have the tendency to drift at times during games.
They can not afford to do so if they want to make it to Indianapolis...
Kansas State could not beat Kansas in three tries this winter but the Wildcats are still playing while the Jayhawks watch from Lawrence.
Guards Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente have Frank Martin's squad one game away from the Final Four. They face a tough Butler team in the Elite 8 but Pullen and Clemente should be too tough for the Bulldogs to handle...
The Celtics are showing life at the right time.
Rajon Rondo dished out 18 assists in a win over the Kings tonight. He is the single most important player on the team and gives the C's a chance to win every night.
Another great sign for the Celtics is that Kevin Garnett's knee looks better every game. KG is running the floor and moving much more fluidly. A healthy Garnett's importance can not be overstated.
Doc Rivers has to be happy about a nine-man rotation of Rondo, Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kendrick Perkins, Rasheed Wallace, Nate Robinson, Marquis Daniels, and Glen Davis going into the playoffs. A veteran role player like Michael Finley gives Rivers another tested playoff hero to turn to if need be.
The Cavaliers, Magic, and Hawks have had excellent regular seasons but a healthy Celtics team is still the team to beat in the East if you ask me...
My annual Red Sox/MLB preview will be coming next week...
Enjoy the Elite 8 this weekend...
