Random Thoughts (January 28, 2010)

The Bruins are fading fast in the Eastern Conference. They currently sit at tenth place in the conference, on the outside looking in on the playoffs. Injuries have made life very hard on the Bruins but lackluster play by the guys on the ice has also doomed their Stanley Cup dreams. There may be a chance for the B's to turn around their season. Marc Savard has started skating and could be back before the Olympic break. There are also rumors that the team is in the hunt to acquire Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk before the March 3 trade deadline. Kovalchuk would add much needed scoring to the Bruins. In 46 games, he has punched in 30 goals and added 26 assists. The top pick of the 2001 draft would not come cheap but the Bruins do have some big chips to deal for his services. They own the Maple Leafs first and second round pick in the 2010 draft as well as their first round selection in 2011. Kovalchuk and Savard would give a spark to the offense and put the B's in the hunt for their first Stanley Cup since 1972... Local college football fans can look forward to the next two UMass-UNH games being played at Gillette Stadium. Both the Minutemen and Wildcats have been contenders for the FCS (formerly 1-AA) national championship over the past decade and should provide two excellent games... If the reports are true and Kurt Warner retires tomorrow, the Cardinals will be losing a great quarterback and the NFL will be losing a better person. Warner will definitely be a member of the Hall of Fame... This might be my last post of the week so make sure to look for me courtside on Sunday during the Celtics-Lakers game... I never would have thought that "Jersey Shore" would have been so entertaining but I find myself missing it already... Enjoy Kendrick Perkins tonight...
