Football Picks

A few nuggets of NFL wisdom (please, feel free to skip to the picks immediately) on the eve of the Conference Championship games... If Percy Harvin does not play tomorrow because of migraine headaches it will haunt him for the rest of his career, no matter how unfair that is to the rookie receiver. Keep in mind that anytime Scottie Pippen's career is talked about, his decision to miss Game 7 of the 1990 Eastern Conference Finals against the Pistons for the same reason is mentioned. The Bulls lost and even though Pippen helped them win six NBA titles in his Hall of Fame career, that moment has never been forgotten. Harvin can only hope to have the impact on football that Pippen did in the hoops world but missing a chance to get to the Super Bowl will be the frame through which we view his career... If there is a Vikings-Colts matchup in the Super Bowl, the over/under on "Brett Favre meets Peyton Manning" stories will be set near 512,000. Take the over... Do you think Marvin Harrison is shooting himself in the foot for not coming back for a chance at another Super Bowl? Lines like that would have kept Conan at NBC... Rex Ryan can coach a football team but seriously, he is a few stops at White Castle away from paying bounty hunters to find Han Solo... The Saints players should vote to split their playoff shares between charities for Hurricane Katrina victims and the survivors of the earthquakes in Haiti... As obvious as the Favre angle is for tomorrow, I hope that the Saints do not forget about Adrian Peterson. The best running back in football has been flying under the radar all year due to the Favre phenomena and is due for a 25o-yard breakout game. The Saints better stop the run first and worry about Favre second... If the Colts win, will Jim Caldwell crack a smile? Will he frown if they lose? I am a fan of coaches that don't get too high or too low but I do want some emotion from a head coach. Caldwell always looks he just smelled a wet fart that he dropped and is trying to play it off like it wasn't him... Keep in mind that I really value coaching matchups at this time of year... Picks are against the spread and home team is in capitals... Jets (+8) over COLTS SAINTS (-3.5) over Vikings Last Week: 2 - 2 Playoffs: 3 - 5 Regular Season: 122 - 109 - 4
