Random Thoughts (September 1, 2007)

Please excuse the 14 Bud Lights I have consumed today, it's been that kind of week... Clay Buchholz-America, America-Clay Buchholz. Yes, that's how it is these days. Buchholz, in his second major league start tonight, tossed a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees can have Joba "The Hutt" Chamberlain and Phillip Hughes, I'd take Buchholz any day of the week over those two overrated stiffs. Red Sox Nation, if you weren't paying attention before tonight, the future is now the present... At the BC-Wake Forest game today I ran into Mike Golic, former NFL player and current co-host of ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning" show. Upon introducing myself and telling Golic what a big fan I was of his show, he gave me an attitude, acted like he was somebody important and never broke his stride. Hey, Golic was a very good NFL player and his radio show is top notch but who is he to blow off a fan? It's not like he is his brother Bob -- also a former NFL player -- who starred in "Saved by the Bell: The College Years." Bob is a star, Mike is the caddy to a whinny Jets fan... Of course, the previous rant does not mean I will return to listening to WEEI's horrid morning show. It was horrible with John Dennis and Gerry Callahan, without them it is worse than listening to Lloyd Carr talk about scheduling automatic wins in September for Michigan... Speaking of Carr, the No. 1 reason why there should be a playoff system in Division 1-A college football took place this afternoon with Michigan's 34-32 loss to Appalachain State in Ann Arbor. The No. 5 nationally ranked Wolverines loss at home to the two-time defending 1-AA national champions ends their dreams of winning the BCS national championship this January. But what if, come January, Michigan is the best team in 1-A football. Their loss today will rule them out of the championship picture. Michigan may not be the best team come bowl season but my point still is valid. A loss on September 1 should not jeopardize the hopes for a championship that is played for in January. I bet Lloyd Carr agrees... Matt Ryan may just squeeze into that early Heisman Trophy conversation if he can continue to post the 5 TD performance he put up against Wake Forest today... I forgive you Rodney Harrison, anyone your age in the NFL coming back from the injuries you sustained would go the extra mile to return... Enjoy the season finale of Entourage on Sunday night...
