Red Sox vs. Angels (April 22, 2011)

Red Sox (7-11) @ Angels (12-7)

SP - Jon Lester (1-1, 3.20) vs. Dan Haren (4-0, 1.16)

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. Adrian Gonzalez, 1B
4. David Ortiz, DH
5. Jed Lowrie, 3B
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Carl Crawford, LF
8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
9. Marco Scutaro, SS

Three Strikes:

1. He may not have been given credit for the win last night but Josh Beckett certainly earned a victory last night.  The Red Sox bats failed their co-ace, stranding what seemed like 117 runners in scoring position, regulating Beckett to a no-decision despite going eight innings and allowing just two runs.  With Beckett firing on all cylinders for the last three starts, the Red Sox have turned things around.

2. Adrian Gonzalez' RBI single in the eleventh inning was encouraging to all Sox fans who have been waiting for the team's two big offseason acquisitions to get hot.  Once Gonzalez gets going, this lineup will be scary good.

3. The attention of the Boston sports scene is focused squarely on New York tonight as the Celtics try and take a 3-0 lead over the Knicks but the Lester-Haren pitching matchup will be well worth staying up for after basketball.  I still remember Haren as the only electric pitcher for the Cardinals in the 2004 World Series and he is, like Lester, one of the best starters in the game.
