Leon Powe Coming Back To Boston?

The Celtics flurry of trades from Thursday - in which they bid adieu to Kendrick Perkins, Nate Robinson, Marquis Daniels, Semih Erden, and Luke Harangody and brought back Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic, and a handful of draft picks - has left them with a few roster spots that need to be filled. While waiting for veterans in bad situations to get bought out of their contracts, the blogosphere has linked names like Troy Murphy, Richard Hamilton (who I do not want to see in a Celtics uniform), and Samuel Dalembert to the Celtics. Obviously with the loss of Perkins and Erden - plus the injuries to Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal - the Celtics need at least one big body fill out their rotation. It looks like the solution to that problem was not one of the rumored players but one that has a history with the Celtics. Old friend Leon Powe is reportedly (courtesy of Marc Stein's Twitter feed) coming back to Boston, healthy and ready to eat up some minutes for Doc Rivers. Powe is an active forward who was on the verge of breaking out as a player following a strong performance in the 2008 Finals but knee injuries have slowed him down considerably. If healthy - and that is a big IF with Powe - he would be able to come in immediately and help Boston defensively and on the glass. His work in helping the Celtics defeat the Lakers for the title in 2008 made him a favorite of TheBostonInsider but I still think that Murphy - if the Warriors buy him out - would be a better fit for the Celtics this year because of his shooting and size. Murphy is 6-11 (Powe is generously listed at 6-8) and has shot 39.1% from three-point land in his career.
