The play of Rajon Rondo so far in the NBA Playoffs has made me bring up my comparisons to the young Celtics point guard and the Hall of Fame forward. Rondo's ability to control the game in multiple ways and his flair for the dramatic are similar to that of Larry Legend, although Bird could carry his team with his shooting - a skill that Rondo does not (yet) possess. My memories of Bird come mainly from books and highlight tapes - I was five years old during the 1986 championship season - but that doesn't mean that I am too young too appreciate the greatness of the best forward who ever played in the NBA. For the sake of the Celtics, I hope that when Rondo hangs up his sneakers in ten years that we are still mentioning him in the same breath of Larry Bird.
