Notes:
What are the odds of Rene Rancourt making his way from TD Garden to Fenway to do an encore rendition of the Star Spangled Banner today? The Bruins starts at 12:30 and the Red Sox start at 1:10 in case you were wondering.
To make room for Ortiz, the Red Sox sent down Jackie Bradley Jr. to Pawtucket. Bradley was off to a slow start after a great Spring Training but I get the feeling he will be back in Boston and helping the Red Sox at some point this season.
Johnny Gomes now becomes the team's fourth outfielder. I like how Gomes plays hard and he has right handed power but he's definitely a defensive liability. I'm curious to see how long the Red Sox can play at such a high level with Gomes and Nava as the left field combination.
